Applications of fatty amines and their derivatives

Fabric softener
More than 50% of quaternary ammonium salt production is used in fabric softeners. Double long-chain fatty alkyl tertiary amine quaternized as fabric softener, the largest variety is bis-stearyldimethylammonium chloride as a fiber conditioning agent, added in the final rinse of household laundry, so that the fabric has a soft feel and antistatic properties.
Antistatic agent
Adducts of fatty primary amines with 2 moles of ethylene oxide are mainly used as antistatic agents in the plastics industry. The ethoxylated amine cannot dissolve in the plastic to the extent that it migrates to part of the surface of the plastic. Once it reaches the surface, the ethoxylated amine absorbs atmospheric moisture sufficiently that the surface of the plastic becomes antistatic.
Bactericide and algaecide
Some of the tertiary amines are quaternized to be used as bactericides, and most of the quaternary ammonium salts used as bactericides contain a benzyl group in their structure. Quaternary ammonium salts used for sterilization purposes in the following areas: domestic, medical and industrial sterilization, disinfection, cleaning, mildew; swimming pool algae, etc.; disinfection in the laundry process; oilfield microbicides, etc..
Bentonite modification
Preparation of fatty amine modified bentonite.
Anti-caking agent
Buramine and its salt can be used as an effective fertilizer or explosives anti-caking agent, used as explosives and other anti-caking agent of fatty amines require a higher freezing point.
Pigment and ink dispersant
Tertiary amines are used as pigment dispersants. Adding tertiary amines reduces the grinding time for pigment production, thus increasing the yield. Fatty diamine and polyamine series are important dispersants for inks and pigments.
Oilfield chemicals
Lignin sulfonate or sulfonated alkali lignin and dodecylamine react to form lignin amine, lignin amine and petroleum sulfonate complex to form a surfactant. It can effectively reduce the surface tension, used for emulsification of oil to reduce viscosity, can make the viscosity drop by 90% and form a stable emulsion. When used as an oil repellent, it can improve the recovery rate of crude oil. Enhanced alkalinity of the system can help the emulsification of oil, because the emulsifying viscosity reducer has better viscosity reduction effect on high acid value crude oil.
Corrosion inhibitor and anticorrosion agent
Alkyl propylene diamines are commonly used corrosion inhibitors. They play an important role in oilfield regeneration process.
Emulsifier
Tertiary amine can be used to produce quaternary ammonium salt-type asphalt emulsifiers, such emulsifiers are widely used in the paving and maintenance of high-grade highways, which can reduce the amount of labor in construction and maintenance, and is conducive to improving the service life of the road surface.
Daily chemical industry applications
The amine oxide prepared by tertiary amine is mainly used for the preparation of daily cleaning products. Such as conditioning shampoos, baths, facial cleansers, foam preparations, light dirtiness silk wool detergent. Used in cosmetics as moisturizer, emulsifier, thickener and bactericidal preservative. Amphoteric surfactant betaine is mainly produced by reacting dimethyl tertiary amine with chloroacetic acid and sodium hydroxide, and can be used in shampoos, high-level detergents and baby cosmetics.
